Does Your Ice Taste Funny

Have you noticed that your refrigerator's ice maker is making ice cubes that taste bad or smell funny, this is a fairly common problem in ice makers.

One possible cause for ice that isn't quite right is a dirty water filtration system filter. If your filter is older than six months you should go ahead and replace it since that is about as long as they are designed to work properly. In fact, if your family uses a lot of ice you may need to replace the filter at more frequent intervals, because the more water the filter has to purify the less time it lasts.

You may want to order a few extra filters to keep on hand as well, luckily filters are not terribly expensive and can in most cases be ordered online.

To discover a few other possible causes, please visit the ARMP blog.

Do it yourself pointers on cleaning the sump of your dishwasher.

I've been having problems with my Kenmore Ultra dishwasher lately. After doing some research, I found the most probable causes were hard water, too much detergent, and screen or filter problems. It seemed to me that the problems were more like filtering issues because I had what looked like dirty water in the dishwasher being applied to the dishes. So I figured I would clean the sump in the bottom of the dishwasher to see if that would take care of the problem.

This video covers removal of the parts in the dishwasher necessary to access the sump in the bottom of the dishwasher. From my research online, I discovered that this type of maintenance should work on Whirlpool and Kitchenaid dishwashers as well.
